Course Description

The objective of the LICQual Level 8 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management System and Practice qualification is to develop occupational health and safety management skills for managers who have the authority and personal attributes to discuss organisational strategy into effective operational performance.

LICQual qualification reflects current practice in Occupational Health and Safety Management and it allows learners to develop and expand their understanding regarding occupational health and safety in the organisation.

LICQual qualification is suitable for aspiring health and safety professionals. It is aimed at learners who are responsible for developing and applying health and safety procedures on a day-to-day basis in an organisation. They are likely to be managers looking to improve their knowledge and skills. It will enable learners to become independent, self-directed learners by providing tools and motivation to continue learning, developing, and reflecting on practice throughout their careers

Entry Requirements

Applicants will need to meet all of the following criteria in order to be considered eligible for this qualification, Applicants should:

  • provide an evidence of a relevant postgraduate degree
  • hold a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a business-related subject
  • have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience
  • held a position at senior management level which is proficient for supporting the achievement of the programme learning outcomes, having the professional research project.

English Requirements

English as the first language is the basic requirement, If English is not the first language, either evidence that the master’s degree was taught mainly or entirely in English, a minimum TOEFL score of 101 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, or an equivalent English language qualification.

Selection

The LICQual centre will ensure that learners are enrolled with integrity. Entry to the qualification will be considered on the basis of:

  • an up-to-date and detailed CV
  • submission of a personal statement
  • centre interview to assess suitability and potential
  • ability to determine proper links to the practice the proposed research refers to.

Equivalences

LICQual qualifications Level 8 portray practice skills and competencies that are rated in academic terms as being comparable to Doctoral Degrees and Vocational Qualifications at Level 8.

QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE

LICQual Level 8 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management System and Practice consists of 6 mandatory units and 2 optional units making a combined total of 180 credits, 1800 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 900 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

  • Safety culture, sustainability and the global effect on performance
  • Risk-based safety systems management
  • Digital technologies and incident investigation
  • Continuous quality improvement initiatives and accreditation
  • Development as a strategic manager
  • Principles of health hazard evaluation, monitoring and control

Optional Units: Choose any TWO:

  • Toxicology and Occupational Hygiene
  • Work Place Safety and Management
  • Organisational Psychology and Ergonomics
  • Environmental Management

Duration and Delivery

LICQual qualification is designed to be delivered over 18 months academic for full-time study. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment and Verification

All units included in this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by LICQual . The qualifications are criteria referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

Learners should provide evidence to achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit and also to show that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria.

The Assessor will provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.

Progressions

Learners completing the LICQual Level 8 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management System and Practice can progress to a university partner to discuss a research proposal for DBA/DProf/PhD or directly into employment in an associated profession. The qualification is approved and is also regulated.
